What is Zero Balancing? A current description

Zero Balancing (ZB) is a unique, leading-edge, body-mind transformational touch therapy. ZB engages the very fabric of the body’s innate consciousness and awakens recipients to an embodied experience of their true self. Simultaneously providing structural therapy and energy medicine, ZB synergizes expanded states of consciousness that support quantum-scale healing and self-actualization. Clinical results include mental clarity and calmness, physical comfort and mobility, emotional resilience and regulation, relational ease and connection, and spiritual grounding and expansion.

Why do you call it a transformational touch therapy?

ZB changes lives. I could call it manual therapy or bodywork, but it is so much more than those words. When we engage both the physical body and the energy that animates it, we touch the known and the unknown in a person. We help them express the best version of themselves and get in touch with parts of themselves they may not have been aware of. We engage the mystery of life when we engage the body at this level. All kinds of things happen beyond physical symptomology. People get better from the inside out, from the core of who they are.

How is it unique?

ZB addresses the bones and joints like chiropractic care, but without the traditional adjustments. The touch engages bones, ligaments, and other connective tissue to open new neurologic pathways and patterns of response at the deepest levels of the body. The whole body-mind responds to deep, conscious touch, and clinical results include improvement in mental clarity and calm, physical comfort and movement, emotional regulation and resilience, spiritual connection and grounding, and relational ease and connection. The goal is for a person to feel themselves in order to know themselves, in order to, hopefully, return to themselves. Many people are surprised to feel how good it feels to drop away the shell of old and outdated stress and tension and feel like themselves, maybe for the first time. You may be surprised at how many symptoms resolve when this happens.

What does “engaging the fabric of body consciousness” mean?

Connective tissue is constantly in reciprocal communication with the centers of consciousness in the brain through the interoceptive neurological pathways in the spinal cord. How our body responds in the moment, how it remembers, how it stores information from experience, and predicts what will happen in the future are all cues that feed into our conscious and unconscious perceptions and responses. A tense, contracted body feels itself through that tension and responds to life through that filter. When the body is clearer, the lens of perception is clearer. Tensions that once piled on our bodies start to flow past like water off a duck’s back.

How do I know if I would benefit from ZB?

Honestly, when people ask me this, I say everyone benefits from ZB. That said, not everyone is ready or geared toward healing what ails them. Some people find addiction an easier solution. Some people find other things that help them cope with the weight of life. I suppose some people were raised with resilience. Some people seem to need their anger and drama to feel life. But I wish I could give ZB sessions to everyone so they would at least know how it feels. I have patients who are hurting and suffering. I have patients who are healed and content. I have patients who are well and thriving and continue to receive ZB sessions for growth, expansion, empowerment, and self-awareness. They smile and tell me life keeps getting better and they are amazed at how good they can feel in their bodies. How do you know if it is for you? Have a session and feel it.

What does a ZB session entail/look like?

Before we begin the hands-on work, we usually have a short discussion about the aim or intention of a session. This could be anything from physical comfort and healing, to having a quiet and peaceful outlook on life, to feeling more joyful connection in relationships. The patient lies on their back, fully clothed, on a treatment table. The practitioner gently and mindfully opens and relaxes the joints of the spine, pelvis, hips, feet, neck, ribcage, etc. The patient usually experiences a very relaxed state, like a meditative state. It is common for people to close their eyes and have dreamlike images, insights, memories. Some experience colors behind their closed eyes, and there is often the feeling of energy or vibration moving in different parts of the body. It is a unique way to experience one’s inner landscape, and it feels very good. It takes about 30-40 minutes to balance the body, but the effects continue after the session.

What is it like to study Zero Balancing?

It’s fun and fulfilling! We laugh (and sometimes we cry). We let go. We heal. We grow. Through theory, discussion, hands-on practice, and touch feedback, participants learn to improve lives in significant ways. Through guided conscious touch skills, students learn to release subconscious somatic tension patterns to optimize interoceptive self-awareness (to filter the static from the signal, if you will). Learning a full-body ZB protocol allows many healthcare professionals (MT, PT, OT, DC, LAc, etc) to elevate their practices immediately. Participants learn to use refined therapeutic touch and skeletal engagement to promote deeply relaxed, expanded states of consciousness, and how to witness, monitor, and respond to a client during a ZB session.
